Cecilia J. May

Cecilia J. May, 103, of Lewiston, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at home with her family by her side. Born in Mt. Clemens on April 17, 1918, she was the daughter of Leo and Elizabeth (Brinker) Ohlert.

Cecilia was involved in the Lewiston community for many years. She was one of the original members and an active parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where she was known as the Donut Lady in her later years. She organized hundreds of funeral luncheons, made donuts for after mass coffee hour and wore several other hats at church throughout the years. For over 30 years, Cecilia worked at Sachs Hardware where she enjoyed seeing locals come in and out of the store, getting to visit with them. She was the founder and organized the Lewiston Historical Society Museum.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Gene) Thornton; grandchildren, Patrick Thornton, Susan Mikesell, Amy (Chris) Pohutsky, Michael (Sherry) May, Charles (Marcie) May, Sarah (Patrick) Crupi, Ted (Hope) May, Mary May, Emily (Rob) Morris, Mark May, Patricia (Dan) Prewett; and 19 great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 1966; her son, Tom May; her parents; her brothers Leo Ohlert and Lambert Ohlert, and her grandson Tommy May just four days before her passing.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 AM Monday, November 8, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lewiston where the family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of services. Burial will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery where she will be buried next to her husband, Charles. In lieu of flowers, those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church or to the Lewiston Historical Society Museum.
