Catherine Jean Hulbert Reindel, 70 of Harbor Springs, died after a short illness on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
She was born in Quincy, Illinois on June 6, 1946, the daughter of Catherine (Sprick) and John Roberts Hulbert. From the age of six to eighteen, she lived in Dearborn, Michigan graduating from Dearborn High School.
Catherine graduated from the University of Michigan and University of Detroit Law School and entered the legal profession as a trust attorney at the National Bank of Detroit. She continued her trust practice with Clarke, Klein Beaumont and finished her professional career in private practice. Catherine was well respected by her colleagues throughout the years, leading to lasting, deep friendships.
Cathy retired in 2001 and moved from Grosse Point to the Good Hart/Harbor Springs area as she loved the “north,” Lake Michigan, wild flowers and the beautiful tunnel of trees.
Cathy was a voracious reader, especially of history books. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking cookies, and making peanut brittle. Most of all, she enjoyed spending the days with her family and friends and her dog, Tiggs. Cathy had dogs throughout her life and found great joy in her close relationships with each of them.
She served on the Emmet County Lakeshore Association Board and the M-119 Tunnel of Trees Heritage Route Committee.
Cathy is survived by her husband, George John Reindel III; her sister, Susan Hulbert (Andrew Jackson IV) Stackhouse of Harbor Springs; her nephew, Kevin Michael (Stacy) Wilson of Austin, TX and their children, Julia Lorraine Wilson and Charles Christopher Wilson; her niece, Carolyn Hulbert Wilson (Steven) Killewald of Concord, MI and their daughter, Cora Marie Killewald. After her marriage to George in 1986, Cathy enjoyed a loving relationship with her stepchildren, George Reindel IV of California; Sally (Jeff) Stallings of Harbor Springs and their daughter, Libby; and Susie (David) Tobbe of Grosse Point, MI. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
