Carol Sue (McWain) Goodenough, 69 of East Jordan, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Born in Detroit on June 12, 1948, Carol was the daughter of Judson and Eva (Watts) McWain.

She was a 1966 graduate of Redford Union High School.  In 1970 she graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.  Carol had taken several courses at Brigham Young University in Genealogy.  She was a longtime educator and a published author.

On June 21, 1969 Carol was married to Robert A. Goodenough at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Detroit.  They lived many years in St. Joseph, Michigan, where they raised their two children, Scott and Susan.  In 2001 they moved from St. Joseph to East Jordan, MI to their family cottage on Lake Charlevoix.

Carol was a longtime Berrien County Girl Scouts Program Director, a member of Fairplain Presbyterian Church in Benton Harbor and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Boyne City.  She was president of the Michigan Mothers of Twins Club, former director of the Boyne City Swim School and secretary of the Chula Vista Homeowners Association.  An avid genealogist, Carol was also founder of the Goodenow Family Association.  Carol also enjoyed her time with the Charlevoix Arthritic Swim Group and Red Hat Group.

Carol is survived by her husband, Robert Goodenough of East Jordan; her children, Scott (Terri Shaw) Goodenough of Brighton and Susan Goodenough of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Alyssa Fackender, Justin Fackender, Ashley (Cory) Gross and Geoff (Megan Albright) Kirklin; great grandchildren, Sydney Gross, Lucas Kirklin and Noah Kirklin; and several nieces and nephews; as well as many extended “family members by choice.”  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Smith and a brother, Donald McWain.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 30. 2017 at Boyne City First Presbyterian Church, 401 S. Park St., Boyne City, MI  49712 where the family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00 AM.  Interment will take place in the spring at Eveline Township Cemetery.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in Carol’s name to the church for the purchase of new audio/video equipment to be used for live streaming services and for providing DVD copies to shut-ins and out of town members.
