Caroline Ann Stowers

Caroline Ann Stowers, 89 of Gaylord, passed away at Medilodge of Gaylord on Friday, July 26, 2019.

Born in Wilmette, Illinois on February 8, 1930, she was the daughter of Eric and Martha (Ludvee) Moen.  As a young girl, Caroline and her siblings went to Norway for a few years to live with family.  After returning to the U.S., her family lived in Detroit where she graduated from Mackenzie High School.

While working at Kelvinator in Detroit, Caroline met the love of her life, Richard Stowers.  They were married in Detroit on June 6, 1953.  They lived in Detroit and in Indiana for a short time before moving to Livonia.  In 1977 Caroline and Richard moved to Gaylord.

Caroline was a devoted wife and mom.  She was her children’s biggest supporter, always present at their school and athletic events.  She also enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening and reading.

She was devoted to her faith and her churches, Ascension Lutheran Church in Livonia and Peace Lutheran Church in Gaylord.  At Peace Lutheran she was an active member of the Altar Guild, Prayer Chain and many other church activities.

Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 2011; a son, Robert Stowers; a grandson, Ryan Stowers and a brother, Knute Moen.  Surviving are her sons, Richard (Teresa) Stowers of Utica and Daniel (Jody) Stowers of Brighton; her daughter-in-law, Kim Stowers of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren, Rachel, Eric (Angel), Sarah (John), Sherri (Ryan), Daniel (Jessica), Danielle, Steven and Jacob; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Allen (Joanne) Moen of Claiborne, TX; a sister-in-law, Gerri Moen of Howell and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 2, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church where the family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00 AM.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Peace Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
