Carol Ann Harrell, 87 of Vanderbilt, passed away at home on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Born on January 2, 1937, in Mt. Clemens, she was the daughter of Arthur and Mabel (Sieferlien) Boske. Carol grew up in East Detroit and was a 1955 graduate of East Detroit High School, with her childhood sweetheart and future husband, James R. Harrell.
Carol and Jim both attended Eastern Michigan University where Carol received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.
On September 7, 1957, Carol and Jim were married in Fraser, Michigan. They made their home in East Detroit where Carol taught kindergarten and later preschool for East Detroit Schools.
They retired to northern Michigan, enlarging what had been their cabin in Vanderbilt, making it their permanent home.
Carol enjoyed spending time with Jim and their son, Michael. The family especially enjoyed snowmobiling, four wheeling and two tracking. She also enjoyed caring for their home, and though she enjoyed collecting things, everything always had its place.
Jim preceded Carol in death last month, on November 6, 2024. She is survived by her son, Michael of Vanderbilt; a sister, Joyce (Kenneth) Hansen of Loveland, CO; a niece, Jodi Hansen; and nephew, Mark Hansen. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Boske.
In keeping with her wishes, Carol’s family will remember her privately. Please share your memories and persona messages with the family on the guestbook below.
