Carl E. Wegner, 80 of Indian River, passed away at home on Friday, June 30, 2017.

Born on August 25, 1936 in Macomb County, he was the son of Carl Ervin and Doris Ann (Edgerton) Wegner.  He grew up in Allenton, MI and was a graduate of Allenton High School.

A skilled carpenter, Carl was self-employed and worked in the communities of Almont, Manistique and Indian River.  He was also a longtime volunteer firefighter serving on the fire departments in those communities as well.

Carl was an avid hunter, fisherman, woodworker and musician.  He was also a member of the Free & Accepted Masons, and currently a member of Karnak Lodge #442 F&AM in Indian River.

On August 17, 1979 Carl married the former Joan T. Mosack in Manistique.  He is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Debra Wegner Vandenburg, Karen (Ron) Ruzycki, Kimberly Wegner, Tracey (Karen) Kriesch, Troy (Denise) Kriesch, Trisha (Randy) DeMars and Tab (Sheri) Kriesch; 20 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; brothers, Roy (Phyllis) Wegner, Glenn (Evelyn) Wegner and Loren Wegner; sisters, Carol (Delbert) Shinn and Eileen (Don) Moore; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Indian River United Methodist Church where the family will visit with friends beginning at 11:30 AM.  A time of fellowship will follow the service.
