Carl B. Gapinski Sr, 81 of Gaylord, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Tendercare Gaylord surrounded by his family.
Born on December 4, 1935 in Gaylord, Carl was the son of David Sr. and Rose (Skwiercz) Gapinski. He graduated from St. Mary High School and was a lifelong resident.
Carl served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1958-1961. Always a hard working man, over many years he worked on the family farm and at Gapinski Concrete and Bozzer Brothers where he was a truck driver and a block layer. He also worked in the plant making concrete and blocks.
Carl was a parishioner at St. Mary Cathedral and he was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime member of Gaylord Eagles #1825 where for many years he worked Friday bingo and was bartender on Sunday. Carl was also an avid ice fisherman.
On March 3, 1962 he married Alfreda T. Moore in Gaylord. They were married for 55 years. He is survived by his wife, Alfreda; his children, Carl “Bernie” (Clarice) Gapinski Jr of Gaylord, Frankie (Charlie Williams) Gapinski of Lake City, FL, Christopher (Dawn) Gapinski of Gaylord and Cindy (Rich) Higley of Gaylord; grandchildren, Brandon, Codey, Crystol, Amy, Ashley, Samantha, Cody and Gage; and great grandchildren, Melody, Ishawna, Allie and Jadalynn, Chase and Kaitlyn. Also surviving are his sister, Gertrude (Kurt) Miller of Gaylord; brothers, David (Frankie) Gapinski of Gaylord, Al (Laraine) Gapinski of Gaylord, Tony Gapinski of Ohio, Phillip (Sharon) Gapinski of Gaylord and Raymond (Sally) Gapinski of Gaylord as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward Gapinski.
The family will visit with friends from 4:00-8:00 PM on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Mary Cathedral where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment with military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan.
