Carla Glynn Deloria, 61, of Petoskey passed away peacefully at the hand of cancer on June 22, 2014, at home in Petoskey under loving care.
Carla was born August 20, 1952, in McRoberts Kentucky, to Carl and Eleanor Brewer.
Carla grew up in East Detroit before moving to Marquette to attain her B.F.A. in art with a concentration in pottery from N.M.U. The rest of her life was spent in Petoskey. She was an accomplished potter and painter and taught pottery to children in the first years of the McCune Art Center where she was instrumental in establishing the pottery program. She went on to co-manage the Grain Train natural foods store and in later years joined the team at Brazone’s Orthodontics.
Her biggest passion in life was her children, Woodrow and Molly who she visited in California regularly. Other of her many passions were gardening at which she excelled, stargazing and study of the cosmos, voracious reading, spring wildflowers, walking her precious little pup, “Bear”, and cooking and baking. Her dinner rolls according to all who were lucky to sample them will never know equal. Her love and compassion for all creatures great and small knew no bounds. She said that her goal in life was to love and to be loved.
Carla was preceded in death by both her parents and her beloved aunts, Golden and Irene.
Carla is survived by her good friend and ex husband James Deloria, her children Woody and Molly, her extended family of beloved in-laws who remained family always and many fine and loving friends. She will be sorely missed and deeply cherished by the many who love her.
Carla requested any memorial contributions be made to your National Public Radio station or Heifer International.
A very special thank you goes to the folks of Hospice of Little Traverse Bay, particularly Justine, Lynette and Mary who helped make Carla’s last days pleasant and peaceful.
A small private celebration of her life will be planned for a future date.
Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Avenue in Gaylord.
