Carl E. Poll Jr

Carl E. Poll Jr., 73 of Gaylord and formerly of Harbor Springs, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 18, 2015.

Born in Grand Rapids on October 16, 1941, Carl was the son of Carl E. Poll Sr. and Betty J. (Geib) Poll. In 1945 the family moved to Sault Ste. Marie where Carl graduated from Sault High School in 1960.

On December 4, 1965 Carl married Jeanne E. McKinney in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. He received a BA degree from Northern Michigan University in Marquette in 1969. Carl served honorably in the U.S. Navy-Submarine Service with 12 years of active duty and was discharged in 1980. For more than 20 years Carl was a manager and later part owner of the Harbor IGA in Harbor Springs, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed owning and restoring antique cars. In retirement Carl and Jeanne enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by Jeanne, his wife of 49 years; his children, Wendy S. (Dannan) Poll-Keays of Harbor Springs and Carl E. (Brenda Davis) Poll III of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Justin Davis and Rebecca Davis of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Layla Tucker, Ian Davis and Jake Harper all of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Janice LeMonds and Dorothea (Lynn) Hufford of Bloomington, IN; several nieces and nephews; as well as his beloved dog, Suzie-Q.

At Carl’s request, no services are planned and his family will remember him privately. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay, the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
