Brenda J. Schafer

Brenda J. Schafer, 67 of Gaylord, passed away Friday, March 25, 2016 at the University Of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.  Born June 22, 1948 in Saginaw, she was the daughter of Marshall “Bud” and Agnies (Brauer) Roesner.

Brenda was a graduate of Saginaw High School and Mott Community College where she received an Associate Degree in Gerontology.

As a young adult she lived in Washington D.C. and worked as a clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  After returning to Michigan, Brenda was a longtime Flint area resident where she worked at Sears and at Metamora Plastics.  She moved to Gaylord about six years ago from Mt. Morris to live near her daughter.

Brenda was a longtime volunteer for the March of Dimes.  She enjoyed reading, crafting, caring for her house plants and jigsaw puzzles.  She enjoyed collecting hats, broaches and snowmen.  In Gaylord, Brenda was a member of the Organ Transplant Support Group of Northern Michigan, having received a lung transplant in September.  She was also a member of Al-Anon Family Groups in Gaylord and the Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles Aerie #1825.

Surviving are her children, Jennifer L. McGough of Gaylord and Gene M. Schafer of Connecticut; grandchildren, Nathan, Noel (Josh), Drew, Owen, Aden and Bobby (Stephanie); and great grandchildren, Regan, Avery, Ruthie, Mikenna, Libbi, Hailey, Hannah, Damian and Dominic.  Also surviving are brothers George (Bonnie) Roesner of Mayville and Clark (Patti) Roesner of Freeland; a sister, Marsha Roesner of Saginaw; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall “Bud” and Agnies Roesner.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where the family will visit with friends beginning at 1:00 PM.
