Bette Gene Burgett, 75 of Atlanta, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024, at Medilodge of Alpena.
Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on February 20, 1949, the daughter of Grant and Betty (Dunk) Oelke, she grew up in Belleville, graduating from Belleville High School in 1967.
On April 25, 1970, Bette was married to Jack Burgett in Belleville, where they lived and raised their family. In 2002 they moved to their home in Atlanta, Michigan which they built in 1998.
Bette worked for several years as a unit clerk at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor and then at Beyer Memorial Hospital in Ypsilanti. Her health required her to take an early retirement.
Bette enjoyed being a member of the water exercise group and collecting cups and saucers. She and her husband, Jack, also enjoyed traveling in retirement while her health still allowed.
Bette is survived by Jack, her husband of 54 years; her children, Jeremy (Crystal) Burgett of Gaylord, and Jessica Zweng of Atlanta; grandchildren, Colton, Floyd, Blake, Hayden, and Haley; a sister, Brenda Ery of Tecumseh, MI; her brother, Robert (Sharon) Oelke of Midland, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Pinter.
Arrangements for a memorial gathering are pending and will be announced later. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in Bette’s memory to the American Heart Association.
