Barbara Ruth Moore, 96, of Indian River, died Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Pineview Cottage in Harbor Springs.
Barbara was born May 21, 1928, in Ionia, Michigan. She was the daughter of Charles and Beulah Higbee. She graduated from Ionia High School and attended secretarial school in Lansing, Michigan. She met Edwin W. Moore, Jr., her future husband, at a YMCA dance while working in Lansing.
On September 16, 1949, Barb married Ed in Ionia, Michigan. Ed’s career as a Conservation Officer led to homes in Michigamme, Escanaba and Rogers City, before settling in Indian River in 1968. In retirement Ed and Barb enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending their winters in Harlingen, Texas. They cherished the many friends they met on their journey together and were especially active in the Indian River Golf Club.
Barb was a generous and caring wife, mother and homemaker. She loved to bake, and her children and their friends remember her wonderful desserts and treats. She was an active member (and sometimes leader) of several service organizations including the Indian River Young Women’s Club, the 4-H Club, Inland Lakes Band Boosters and United Methodist Women, to name a few. She was a willing volunteer wherever she saw a need. A talented seamstress, Barb loved to sew clothing for herself and her two daughters. In later years she polished her talents as an artist and created many paintings and crafts that are treasured by her family and friends. Her beautiful flower gardens were a great joy to her.
Barbara was preceded in death in 2014 by Edwin, her husband of 64 years. She is survived by her sister Elinor Weisgerber of Ionia: children Christine (Oussama) Noueilaty of Austin, TX; Edwin (Linda) Moore, III and Deborah Fullford, both of Indian River; grandchildren, Khaled, Samia, Rema, Scott, Christopher and Taylor; great grandchildren, Kaden, Leilah, Tessa, Donovan, Flynn, Tad, Elsie, Norah, and Islah.
A private memorial service is planned for a later date.
