Arthur Leroy Clark of Indian River went to be with Jesus on December 14th, 2023, after a battle with cancer. Arthur passed at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital. Arthur was born October 27, 1943, in Brutus, Michigan and was the son of Leo R. and Edith A. Clark. Arthur grew up in Brutus and is a 1962 graduate of Pellston High School.
On April 10, 1965, he married Bertha I. Jacobs. Arthur and Bertha Clark had made their home in several Michigan cities including Pontiac, Petoskey, Pellston, and Indian River.
For many years, Arthur was an active member of the Salvation Army, volunteered for the American Red Cross, and was an active member of the Indian River Lions Club. He also volunteered to support the local Boy Scouts. He retired from Northern Central Michigan College in Petoskey on October 30th, 2005, after 31 years as a custodian and maintenance team member. He also worked for General Motors beginning in the Fall of 1963 and later served in the United States Army from August 1966 to August 1968.
Survivors include friend Leslie Drury, brother William and wife Frances Clark of Brutus, Michigan. Sister Charlotte Gregory of Harrison, Arkansas and Sister Leona Burrows of Harbor Springs, Michigan. Arthur has numerous nieces and nephews that he loved as if they were his own children.
Arthur was preceded in death by his father, Leo R. Clark, Mother Edith A. Clark, sister Emeline E. Nestell, brother-in-law Albert Gregory and wife Bertha I. Clark. Arthur also had siblings that preceded him in death as infants, Richard, Patricia, Katherine, and Joseph.
Arthur loved taking pictures of his family and friends and sharing family stories and history. He loved genealogy, traveling, and enjoying nature. Arthur Clark could meet you once and remember you always. Uncle Art was one of the finest, kindest, compassionate, patient, and encouraging men one could ever meet and always ready to lend a helping hand. He is greatly missed.
Memorial service will be on Saturday, January 27th at the Indian River, Michigan Lions Club. Memorial service will begin at 12:00 pm and luncheon and fellowship to follow at 1:00 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Indian River, Michigan Lions Club.
