Arlene D. Guthrie

Arlene D. Guthrie, 75 of Gaylord, passed away at Otsego Memorial Hospital on Sunday, October 4, 2015.

Born in Surrey, ND on May 6, 1940, Arlene was the daughter of Edward and Agnes (Witham) Hoppman. She graduated from Surrey High School. Arlene and Robert “Butch” Guthrie were childhood friends who grew up together. They married in Surrey on August 4, 1957.

Butch’s work took the family from North Dakota to Oklahoma City, OK in 1982 and to Gaylord in 1984. Arlene worked several years in the lunch program at Gaylord Community Schools before joining Old Kent Bank, which later became Fifth Third Bank, in 1988. She worked in the accounting department and later as a teller, retiring in 2002. After several months of retirement, Arlene went back to work part time at Northwestern Bank and later at Independent Bank. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, an avid softball player and she enjoyed camping.

Arlene is survived by Butch, her husband of 58 years; her children, Jerry (Diane) Guthrie of Gaylord, Candace (Ernie) Guthrie of Bismarck, ND, Kevin (Jo Carol) Guthrie of Dickinson, ND, Casey (Shelli) Guthrie of Bellaire, Bill (Bobbi) Guthrie of Alamogordo, NM and Stacy Guthrie of Gaylord; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Darlene (Jack) Dickman of Minot, ND and Viola (Arlen) Ojala of Sandpoint, ID; a brother, Richard (Polly) Hoppman of Salem, OR and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Lillian Grabow and Elaine Bradwische.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where the family will visit with friends beginning at 1:00 P.M.
