Ann Cecelia Barney, 65 of Gaylord, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Medilodge of Gaylord.

Born on April 14, 1953 in Detroit, Ann was the daughter of Frederick and Marilyn (Mellon) Barney.  The family later moved to Deerfield, Illinois where Ann graduated from high school.  She went on to receive an associates degree from the College of Lake County with courses in real estate, engineering and computer science.

Throughout her career as a traffic engineer in the telecommunication industry, Ann lived in Illinois, Mississippi, New York, Louisiana, Florida and Michigan.  In 2009 she moved to northern Michigan to be near her family.  While living in Gaylord, Ann attended St. Andrew Episcopal Church.  She enjoyed quilting, reading, computers and caring for her many cats.

Ann is survived by her stepmother, Elinore Barney of Indian River; cousins, Valerie, Diana and Cynthia Barney, David, Don, Dan and Dean Barney, Dianne Barney, and Nancy and Timothy Mellon; her uncle, Donald Barney; and aunts, Barbara and Mary Lou Barney.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn Barney and her father, Frederick Barney.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 15, 2018 at St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Gaylord where the family will visit with friends beginning at 1:00 PM.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the church.
