Aloysius J. "Al" Gapinski

Aloysius J. “Al” Gapinski, 81 of Gaylord, passed away at home on Monday, January 3, 2022.

Born in Gaylord on June 7, 1940, Al was the son of David Sr. and Rose (Skwiercz) Gapinski.  A lifelong resident, Al was a 1958 graduate of St. Mary High School.  He was lifelong parishioner at St. Mary Cathedral and 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

On February 9, 1963, he was married to Laraine M. Moore at St. Mary Church in Gaylord.  She preceded him in death on August 7, 2018.

Al learned hard work as young man, working on his father’s farm.  Later he worked at Gapinski Concrete and John Vinicki Plumbing before going to work at Georgia Pacific where he worked for 30 years.  He retired in 1996.

In his spare time, Al enjoyed farming, fishing and visiting area casinos.  He also loved to drive and enjoyed travel.

Al is survived by his four children, Steve (Lona) Gapinski of Gaylord, Joni (Mike) Rusnell of Potomac, MT, Martin Gapinski of Gaylord and Richie (Michelle Rusnell) Gapinski of Clarkston; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Brock) Dotts, Shane (Allyssa) Gapinski, Jeremy (Jasmine) Rusnell and Ryan, Dakota Jennifer and Brooke Gapinski; and great grandchildren, Scarlett Gapinski; Greyson Gapinski and the future baby boy Dotts due to arrive in April; brothers, David (Frankie) Gapinski of Gaylord, Anthony Gapinski of Ohio, Raymond (Sally) Gapinski of Gaylord and Philip Gapinski of Gaylord; a sister, Gertrude (Kurt) Miller of Gaylord; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Eddie and Carl Gapinski.

Al’s family will visit with friends from 4:00-7:00 PM Friday, January 7, 2022 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 8, 2022 at St. Mary Cathedral where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or McLaren Hospice.

Burial will take place in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Gaylord.
