Allan R. Haus, 83 of Vanderbilt, passed away at McReynolds Hall on Sunday, August 20, 2017.
Born in Avon Township on July 1, 1934, Allan was the son of James and Elizabeth Housekeeper. Allan grew up in Pontiac and was a graduate of Pontiac High School. Later he changed his last name to Haus.
After serving in the United States Army, Allan returned to Pontiac and worked at Pontiac Schools as a bus driver and custodian. With the support of his wife, Elizabeth, he began a plumbing apprenticeship, later passing both his journeyman and master plumber tests on the first attempt. After 10 years at Pontiac Schools, he went to work at Dearborn Public Schools as a master plumber, retiring in 1996 after 30 years.
In retirement Allan and Elizabeth moved to Vanderbilt where they both remained very active. Not one to sit idle, Allan went to work for Otsego County as a plumbing and mechanical inspector for 13 years. He also spent 10 years on the Vanderbilt Planning Commission. He enjoyed attending Vanderbilt Community Church, and in his spare time, Allan was an avid and accomplished golfer. He enjoyed encouraging and helping young people pursue the game of golf.
Allan is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 56 years; a sister, Alice Holley of Eustis, FL; his brother-in-law, Arthur (Elizabeth) Warrilow of Tampa, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
The family will visit with friends from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday, August 25, 2017 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service and from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Vanderbilt Community Church where funeral services will be held at 1:00PM. A reception will be held immediately after at the Corwith Township Hall.
