Alfred William Sylvester, 95, of Gaylord, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Tendercare of Gaylord. He was born May 16, 1917 in Detroit the son of Fred and Louise (Muszynski) Sylvester. Alfred married Geraldine M. VanSyckle on September 8, 1945. He worked for many years as a tool & die maker and also at Georgia Pacific in Gaylord from where he retired. He also retired from several years as a school bus driver in for Gaylord Community Schools. He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Alfred was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Mancelona. He is survived by Geraldine, his wife of 67 years; daughters Joan (Kent) Cherrey of Salt Lake City, UT, Patti Cassel, Delores (Mike) Corpe and Judy Dubots all of Lansing, Pam (Jim) Herzer of Gaylord, Sandy (Pat) Moallemian of Ashland, MA, Lori Gonzalez and Lisa (Kurt) Cancilla both of Gaylord; sons Bill (Kathy) Sylvester of Wolverine and Sonny Sylvester of Honeoye, NY; 22 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Hills of Ohio. Alfred was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Vietor in 2003. At his request, the family will remember him privately. Arrangements are being handled by Gaylord Funeral & Cremation Service Inc. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home.
