Charles T. Horvath

Charles T. “Chuck” Horvath, 87 of Wolverine, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at The Brook in Boyne City.

Shortly after the Korean War, where he served honorably in U.S. Army Intelligence, Chuck married Betty Smith.  They had five sons and a daughter during 46 years of marriage.

Chuck was born to Hungarian parents Louis and Margret.  They lived in Highland Park and Southfield, where he grew up with his older brother, Lou Horvath.  Dreaming of a football career, he traded that for his family, raising his daughter and sons, coaching their hockey and football teams.

Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 1991 just before they were to retire up north.  Chuck made the move and spent more than 20 years with friends Dwain and Pat, at the casinos, boating on his 28’ Chris Craft or driving with the top down in his ’64 Buick Special.  Though a quiet man, he was a standout husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his two sons, John (Cheryl) and Mike; his daughter, Mary; grandchildren, Nick, Jenny (Tyler), Jessica (Jason), Amanda, Kandice, Ashley and Stephanie; great grandchildren, AJ, Anakin, Nicholas, Mason, Alaina, Kaylin, Donte and Addy; and nieces, Peggy, Janet and Lisa.  In addition to his parents and his wife, Chuck was preceded in death by sons, Dan, Tom and Paul; his brother and sister-in-law, Lou and June; a niece, Pat and a nephew, Bobby.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Orchard Lake where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.  Interment with military honors will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.  Please share your memories and personal messages with the family at www.gaylordfuneralhome.com
